Estimate your ISEE parificato

Enter your family income, savings and property in rupees. The tool converts them to euro, applies the equivalence scale for your household size and compares the result with the 2026/27 regional scholarship limits. No sign-up, nothing to pay.

Explained

What is the ISEE parificato?

ISEE (Indicatore della Situazione Economica Equivalente) is the indicator Italy uses to measure a family’s economic situation. It decides how much public support a student can receive, including the regional DSU scholarship and, at many public universities, the tuition band.

Italian families get their ISEE from Italian tax and bank records. A family with income and assets abroad cannot, so the university or the regional body calculates an ISEE parificato (“equalised ISEE”) from the foreign documents. That is the figure compared with the national limits.

For 2026/27 the national limits are €28,339.88 ISEE and €61,608.48 ISPE (the assets indicator). Regions can set different rules, so the official call of the region where you will study always decides.

Method

How this estimator works

  1. Convert to euro

Income and savings are divided by the rupee-per-euro rate you enter. Italian bodies use their own reference rate, so your result can differ slightly.

  2. Value your property

Buildings abroad are valued at €500 per square metre of built area under the university guidance we used. Land is not counted here.

  3. Build the ISE

ISE = income + 20% of (savings + property value) − any allowed deduction you enter.

  4. Apply the scale

ISEE = ISE divided by an equivalence parameter that grows with household size (1.00 for one person, 2.46 for four). ISPE = (savings + property) divided by the same parameter.

The scale values and the 20% share follow the Italian rules (DPCM 159/2013) as summarised in university guidance. The official calculation also allows deductions (for example for rented housing or certain assets) that depend on your documents. This tool lets you enter a deduction yourself but does not work out which ones apply, so it may overstate your ISEE.

DSU limits and minimum grants

Regional bodies set the exact call each year. These national figures are the benchmark most students use for planning.

Preparation

Documents to start collecting

Family and income

  • Family composition certificate for everyone in the household
  • Income proof for every earner: salary statements, tax returns or an income certificate for the reference year
  • Parents’ employment or business proof

Assets

  • Bank and fixed-deposit statements showing balances on 31 December of the reference year
  • Share, mutual-fund and insurance statements
  • Property papers showing the built area of each building

Legalisation takes time. The University of Milan states that documents from abroad must be legalised and translated by the Italian diplomatic offices. Ask your target university and the regional body exactly which stamps and translations they accept before you pay for anything.

Good practice

Common mistakes

  • Using the wrong year. The reference year for income and assets is set in the call. Check it before you gather papers.
  • Counting only the parents. The household also includes dependent siblings. Use the family composition certificate.
  • Leaving out property. Even the family home counts in the foreign-asset calculation. Use total built area.
  • Treating the estimate as the result. Use it to decide whether to prepare a DSU application, not to promise a grant.

FAQ

Questions, answered honestly

It is the equalised ISEE that Italian universities and regional bodies calculate for students whose family income and assets are outside Italy. It is compared with national limits to decide DSU scholarship eligibility and, at many public universities, the tuition band.

Yes, international students can apply for regional DSU support if their family income and assets fall within the limits and they meet the call’s other rules, such as enrolment and, in later years, credits earned. Each region publishes its own call, so read the call of the region where you will study.

National limits reported from the 2026 Ministry decrees are €28,339.88 ISEE and €61,608.48 ISPE. The 2025/26 limits were €27,948.60 and €60,757.87. Regions may set different rules, so always confirm in your regional call.

It is a planning estimate. It uses the published structure of the calculation (income plus 20% of assets, divided by the equivalence scale) and the rupee rate you enter. It does not know which deductions your documents allow, and Italian bodies use their own reference exchange rate, so the official figure can differ.

The tool starts with an indicative rate and lets you change it. Italian bodies apply their own reference rate for the relevant year, which you can ask the regional body or university about.

Check which deductions apply and whether your reference-year figures are right. If you are still above, look at merit scholarships such as university awards, Bocconi and Politecnico merit awards or Invest Your Talent in Italy, and plan your budget with the funds calculator.

Not to get a visa. It is needed to apply for DSU support and for income-based tuition reductions at many public universities. Private universities set their own fees.
