Overview
How funding works in Italy
1. Regional DSU scholarship
- The main support for most students. Based on family income and assets, not marks.
- Applied for with the regional body (for example ER.GO, EDISU or DiSCo).
- Can include a tuition waiver, a yearly grant and canteen or housing help.
2. University merit awards
- Bocconi, Politecnico di Milano and others waive tuition for top applicants.
- Many are decided through the admission rounds, so early applications matter.
- Some need a separate scholarship form. Read each call.
3. Government programmes
- Invest Your Talent in Italy gives €10,800 for nine months, with an internship.
- MAECI “Study in Italy” grants are applied for on the Study in Italy portal.
- Calls open once a year. Eligible countries differ by call.
4. Your own funding plan
- Scholarships rarely cover every cost. Budget with the funds calculator.
- For the visa you must still show proof of means.
- Part-time work can help, but do not rely on it.

Shortlist programmes
Choose courses where the university also offers merit awards. Check eligibility and language requirements.
Prepare the profile
Transcript, CGPA, English certificate, CV and motivation. Some awards need a short video or portfolio.
Apply in early rounds
Early admission rounds often have the largest share of merit awards.
Prepare DSU documents
Start legalising family documents months before the regional call. Use the ISEE estimator.
Confirm and plan the visa
Keep every award letter. Use the funds calculator to show your means.
Always check the current call. Amounts, eligible countries and deadlines change every year and we never list a future date as confirmed. Where an entry says “confirm details”, the official call has not yet been checked for that point.

Questions, answered honestly
The main options are the regional DSU scholarship (need-based), university merit awards such as Bocconi Graduate Merit Awards and Politecnico di Milano merit scholarships, and government programmes such as Invest Your Talent in Italy. Our finder lists each with its official link and when we last checked it.
Yes. The 2026/27 call was open to citizens permanently resident in India for Master’s and postgraduate courses, with €10,800 for nine months and a mandatory internship. That call closed on 11 May 2026. The next call date is not confirmed, so watch the official portal.
DSU (diritto allo studio universitario) is the regional right-to-study support. It is awarded on family income and assets, using limits such as an ISEE of about €28,340 for 2026/27 reported from the Ministry decrees, plus enrolment rules. Use our ISEE estimator to check where you stand.
Bocconi Graduate Merit Awards for 2026/27 offer a 100% waiver of ordinary tuition and fees. They are assigned through the admission application, with no separate application, and most are given in the early rounds. Renewal needs at least 50 credits.
Dates differ for each award and each year. We do not list future dates as fixed. Check the official call for the intake you want, and apply to programmes in the earliest round you can.
It covers the main awards for international students and shows when each was last checked (October 2026). Some entries are marked to confirm details because amounts, dates or country eligibility must be read from the current official call. It is a starting point, not a replacement for the official pages.
